Excel voter lists

Sikkim has an assembly seat with no boundaries.

The Sangha constituency isn't a place on a map. Its voters are the monks and nuns of Sikkim's registered monasteries, wherever those monasteries happen to be — Rumtek, Pemayangtse, Enchey, and dozens more across the hills. It's the only seat of its kind in India, and its voter list looks nothing like an ordinary constituency's.

The Sikkim voter list in Excel covers it, along with the other 31 seats: one workbook per constituency, one sheet per booth, every voter on one row, names as printed plus Hindi.

The Only Assembly Seat Where Monks Are the Electorate

What makes the Sangha roll different:

  • voters are grouped by monastery, not by neighbourhood
  • booths can sit far apart, in different districts
  • names follow monastic and Buddhist naming traditions
  • a campaign here is about institutions, not streets

We keep every name exactly as printed and the booth structure intact, so the Sangha file is as usable as any other.

Small State, Unusual Reservations

Sikkim's 32 seats don't follow the usual General/SC/ST pattern:

CategorySeats
Bhutia-Lepcha (BL) 12
Scheduled Caste 2
Sangha 1
General 17

Names on the roll reflect the state's mix — Nepali, Bhutia and Lepcha naming traditions side by side. Generic OCR, trained on mainstream Indian names, misreads a fair share of them. A person checks every name against the scan.
