Excel voter lists

Search a Gujarat voter list for "Ramesh" and you'll miss half the Rameshes.

They're all there — as Rameshbhai. Same with Kokila, who's on the roll as Kokilaben. It's a tiny detail, and it quietly wrecks every quick search, every mail merge and every "find this voter" request a campaign office fields in a day.

That's the kind of thing we fix before the file reaches you. The Gujarat voter list in Excel from Setuk.org comes as one workbook per constituency, one sheet per booth, every voter on one row, with names in Gujarati, English and Hindi.

December 2027 Is Closer Than It Looks

Gujarat's next Assembly election is due in late 2027. The roll it'll be fought on was rebuilt in phase two of the Special Intensive Revision, with the final version published on 17 February 2026.

That gives teams roughly a year and a half of runway. Here's how the good ones use it:

  1. Map every booth on the SIR roll, not the 2022 one
  2. Flag first-time voters — anyone 18 or 19 on the 2026 roll
  3. Size each booth and assign workers in proportion
  4. Re-check after each continuous-update supplement

Steps one and two are impossible from PDFs and take minutes from a sheet.

-bhai, -ben and the Three-Part Name

Gujarati rolls follow a pattern most software doesn't expect:

Given name + suffix · father's or husband's name · surname

  • *Rameshbhai Kantilal Patel*
  • *Kokilaben Rameshbhai Shah*

We keep the name exactly as printed and transliterate it consistently into English and Hindi. Then a tip that saves real time: in Excel, use a "contains" filter or search for the first few letters ("Ramesh"), and the -bhai and -ben versions come up too.

Why Gujarati Rolls Break Hindi-Trained OCR

Gujarati looks like Devanagari without the line on top — and that missing line (*shirorekha*) is exactly what Hindi-trained OCR uses to find where words begin and end. Run a Gujarati roll through a Hindi tool and you get broken words and misread letters.

We use OCR set up for Gujarati, then check every booth against the official men and women totals.

Why can't I find "Ramesh" in a Gujarat voter list?

Yes. The roll is printed in Gujarati. Each file keeps the Gujarati names and adds English and Hindi transliterations, reviewed by people.

No. Only what's printed in the public roll: EPIC number, name, relative's name, house number, age, gender, section and part number.
